Navigated to Major Requirements (CCAS-PSC).

The major in political science requires the completion of 13 courses (39 credits) including:

  • 50:790:101  Introduction to Politics

  • 50:790:102  The Study of Politics

And at least two courses from each of the three areas of concentration:

  • American politics and public policy

  • International politics

  • Political theory and methodology

These eight courses may not include internships or independent study unless approved by the department chair.

Non-classroom courses such as internships and independent study may count toward the 39 credits, but a student may take no more than 9 of these credits to complete the major. In addition, students may only take two online courses towards the major unless they obtain prior approval from the department chair.

Only grades of C or better will count toward fulfillment of the requirement for all 39 credits toward the major, and at least 15 of these credits must be taken at Rutgers.
